Install WASPrFlow and dictate in about three minutes

Download, first launch, first transcript, and every setting that matters. Written and checked against WASPrFlow 1.2.192 for Windows 10 and 11.

Windows 10 & 11 · 64-bit ≈ 5.4 MB download No account required Updated 28 Oct 2026

Which installer? Use the Setup EXE for a normal desktop install. Use the MSI when IT deploys software through Intune, SCCM, or Group Policy. Both install the same app and share the same licence.

WASPrFlow wasp

Quick start

Five steps from download to your first inserted sentence. The rest of this guide explains each step in detail.

  1. 1

    Download the Setup EXE

Get WASPrFlow_latest_x64-setup.exe from the download section. It is about 5.4 MB.

  2. 2

    Run the installer

If Windows shows “Windows protected your PC”, choose More info, then Run anyway. The publisher warning is expected while SmartScreen builds reputation for the installer.

  3. 3

    Find the floating bar

The bar appears near the bottom of your screen and stays above other windows. Hover it to reveal the record button and the gear.

  4. 4

Hold Ctrl + Shift and speak

Put the cursor in any text field, hold the hotkey, and say a sentence. The bar switches to its listening state with a red dot and a live level meter.

  5. 5

    Release to insert

Let go of the hotkey. The bar switches to Transcribing, then Rewriting, and inserts the cleaned text at your cursor.

Before you install

RequirementDetails
Operating systemWindows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit.
Download sizeSetup EXE ≈ 5.4 MB · MSI ≈ 7.9 MB.
Disk spaceAbout 25 MB for the app. Microsoft Edge WebView2 is usually already present on Windows 10 and 11; the installer fetches it if it is missing.
InternetRequired for cloud dictation, AI rewrite, licence activation, and updates.
AccountNone. There is no sign-up, no subscription, and no account to manage.
MicrophoneAny input device Windows can see. A headset or USB microphone gives the most consistent results.
Admin rightsUsually not needed for the Setup EXE. The MSI installs per machine and may ask for elevation.

No keys to configure. WASPrFlow includes the provider keys it needs. You can optionally add your own Deepgram or OpenAI key later, but nothing is required before your first dictation.

Install WASPrFlow

Step 1 — Download the right file

Open the downloads section and pick one:

  • Setup EXE — WASPrFlow_latest_x64-setup.exe. Best for most people. Installs for your Windows user.
  • MSI — WASPrFlow_latest_x64_en-US.msi. Best for managed fleets and software deployment tools.

The download links always point at the current release. The current build is 1.2.192, published 28 October 2026. It fixes bar docking on secondary monitors, including mixed DPI and auto-hide taskbars.

Step 2 — Handle the Windows SmartScreen prompt

Windows may show “Windows protected your PC” with an Unknown publisher label. SmartScreen has not yet built reputation for this installer, so this is a reputation warning rather than a virus detection.

  • Select More info.
  • Select Run anyway.
  • Only do this for a file downloaded from wasprflow.xyz. Do not run an installer attached to an email or sent over chat.

You do not need to disable SmartScreen or your antivirus to install WASPrFlow.

Step 3 — Run the setup wizard

Accept the default install location unless you have a reason to change it, then finish the wizard. The Setup EXE uses a per-user install, so it normally completes without an administrator prompt.

If the wizard offers to launch WASPrFlow, leave that box ticked. If it does not, start WASPrFlow from the Start menu.

Step 4 — Confirm the app is running

You should see two things:

  • The floating bar, docked above the taskbar and always on top.
  • A WASPrFlow icon in the system tray. Left-click it to bring the bar back if you ever lose it; right-click for Show, Hide, and Quit.

Hover the bar to reveal a red record button and a gear. Right-clicking the bar also opens settings.

Upgrading? Run the newer installer over the old one. Settings, history, and an activated licence live in your app data folder and survive an in-place upgrade.
Managed deployment? Use the MSI with your normal Intune, SCCM, or Group Policy packaging. The MSI installs per machine; the Setup EXE is the per-user path.

Your first dictation

Hold, speak, release

  1. Click into any text field — Notepad, a browser form, Outlook, Slack, or an editor.
  2. Hold Ctrl + Shift (the default hotkey).
  3. Speak a full sentence at a normal pace.
  4. Release both keys and wait for the inserted text.

There is no dictation window and no copy-paste step. The result lands at the cursor.

Or dictate hands-free

Hover the bar and click the red record button to start a session that stays open until you click it again. This is useful for longer passages or when you do not want to hold a key.

A hands-free session stops automatically after five minutes. The hotkey is ignored while it is running.

Bar stateWhat it means
ReadyIdle. Hover to show the record button and gear.
ListeningMicrophone is live. A red dot and level meter show input.
Transcribing / TranslatingSpeech is being converted, and translated if you chose a different output language.
Rewriting / InsertingText is being cleaned up and placed at the cursor.
InsertedSuccess. The bar returns to Ready after a moment.
ErrorSomething failed. Open the gear, then About → Logs, for the reason.

First test: open Notepad and dictate “This is my first WASPrFlow sentence.” If that works, the microphone, network, rewrite, and insertion path are all healthy.

Set it up your way

Open settings with the gear on the bar, or by right-clicking the bar. Changes save as you make them.

Footer buttonsOpen the secondary panels.History, Buy/Licensed, Stats, Settings, Quit, About

Privacy & Settings panel

Open it with the Settings button in the footer. It contains the privacy toggle, the Deepgram compliance route, local-history retention, and the rewrite model.

  • Compliance route: US Standard, US Compliance, EU Residency, Customer Endpoint, Local Runtime, or Custom (legacy).
  • Models: gpt-4o-mini (default), gpt-4.1-nano, gpt-5-nano, gpt-5.4-mini.
  • Validate route checks that the selected private route is reachable.

History, Stats, and Logs

  • History lists recent transcripts with copy and delete per entry, plus Save, Load, and Clear.
  • Stats shows words transcribed, keystrokes counted, average speaking rate, active days, and version.
  • Logs (About → Logs) stores local diagnostics. Copy one entry, copy all, clear, or export. “Clear logs on start” keeps the file small.

About, updates, and startup

The ? button opens About. It shows the installed version, feedback and log shortcuts, and two startup options:

  • check for updates at startup — on by default.
  • on w/ Windows — launch WASPrFlow when you sign in.

Feedback opens a message box, then hands the note to your email app addressed to help@wasprflow.xyz.

Hotkey tips

  • Avoid combos Windows already uses, such as Win + L.
  • Mouse 4 and Mouse 5 work well if your keyboard has no free combo.
  • Click the hotkey badge, press the new combo, and wait for the badge to update.
  • If the hotkey stops responding, confirm the bar is running from the tray.

Optional API keys. The build includes the provider keys it needs, so the API Keys panel stays out of the way unless a key is missing. If it appears, paste your own Deepgram or OpenAI key and select Save; Clear Keys restores the built-in values. Keys entered here stay on this PC and are never written to history or logs.

Licence and activation

Buy or activate

Open Buy or Licensed in the settings footer.

  • Buy: enter your email, then choose Buy $14.99 USD. Checkout opens in your browser, and the app checks every five seconds and activates automatically when payment clears.
  • Activate: paste the key from your purchase email and select Activate.
  • Import: use the file button in the licence panel to load a saved .lic file.
  • Discount code: choose Buy w/ code before checkout.

The licence is a one-time purchase. There is no subscription.

Manage and move it

After activation the panel shows the licence tier and the email it was issued to, with three actions:

  • Remove License clears the licence from this PC.
  • Backup License saves a reusable WASPrflow_license.lic file.
  • Del is a compact shortcut that deletes the stored licence file.

To move to another PC, install WASPrFlow there, then import the backup file and activate. Keep the file private; it is your licence.

Key not accepted? Paste the whole key including its dashes. If the key has expired or you cannot find it, email help@wasprflow.xyz with your purchase email.

Privacy and data controls

Dictation audio and rewrite requests pass through the WASPrFlow relay to the speech and language providers. The relay stores no audio, transcripts, or rewritten text; it logs route, status, timing, and a hashed caller id. History, settings, dictionary terms, and logs stay on your PC.

  • Privacy Mode sends audio to your selected transcription route and skips AI rewrite entirely.
  • On US and EU Deepgram routes, Privacy Mode opts out of the model-improvement programme.
  • Customer Endpoint and Local Runtime keep audio in infrastructure you control.
  • If a private route is unavailable, you are prompted to use cloud routing for that run or cancel.
  • History retention in Privacy Mode follows the local history toggle.

Read the full detail on the privacy page, or watch the 45-second privacy walkthrough.

Updates

Automatic

WASPrFlow checks wasprflow.xyz/latest.json at startup by default. When a new build is available, the updater panel shows the current and target versions, the release notes, and download progress.

Updates are signed and verified by the built-in updater before they install. Settings and your licence are preserved.

Manual

  • Open About and select Check for updates.
  • Or download the latest installer from wasprflow.xyz and run it over the current install.
  • Compare the installed version in About with the version on the release history page.

Troubleshooting

Windows says “Windows protected your PC”

Select More info, then Run anyway. SmartScreen has not yet built reputation for this installer, so it shows an Unknown publisher warning even though the download is genuine.

Confirm the file name and that it came from wasprflow.xyz. Do not disable SmartScreen globally to work around this.

The installer does nothing, or antivirus quarantines it

Installers without an established reputation are sometimes held by antivirus or by the “blocked file” flag. Check your antivirus quarantine, restore the file if you trust the source, then run it again. For the MSI, right-click and choose Run as administrator.

If installation still fails, re-download from the site rather than reusing an old copy.

The app is running but I cannot see the bar

Find the WASPrFlow icon in the system tray and left-click it. The tray menu also has Show WASPrFlow, Hide WASPrFlow, and Quit WASPrFlow.

If the bar was undocked and moved to a monitor that is no longer connected, the tray show action brings it back to the current monitor. You can then set Position → Docked.

The hotkey does not start dictation

Another app may own the same combination. Open settings, click the hotkey badge, and press a different combo. Mouse 4, Mouse 5, and the middle mouse button are also supported.

If the bar is hidden or the app was quit from the tray, restart WASPrFlow. A hands-free session ignores the hotkey until you stop it.

The bar listens, but no text appears

Make sure the cursor is in an editable field and that the field still has focus when you release the hotkey. Some apps change focus during processing.

Windows blocks synthetic input into elevated windows. If the target app runs as administrator, run WASPrFlow as administrator too. Test in Notepad first to separate an app-specific issue from a system one.

If insertion still fails, WASPrFlow falls back to the clipboard so the text is not lost; paste it manually.

The microphone is not detected

Open Windows Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone and allow desktop apps to access the microphone. Then choose the correct input device under Microphone in WASPrFlow.

If you plugged in a device after WASPrFlow started, restart the app so the device list refreshes. Windows’ system-default input is the safest choice when switching between headsets.

Words or names come out wrong

Add the name or term to the Dictionary so the rewrite preserves its exact spelling. Matching is case-insensitive, so WASPrFlow and wasprflow are the same entry.

Also check Input Lang. Auto-detect is convenient, but a fixed language is more accurate for short phrases and technical vocabulary.

Punctuation or tone does not match what I wanted

Try a different Tone: Formal adds full punctuation and capitalisation, Very casual removes most of it, and NSFW removes the filter, punctuation, and capitalisation entirely. Speak complete sentences and pause briefly at clause boundaries; very short fragments are harder to format.

The rewrite model in Privacy & Settings also changes how aggressively text is rewritten.

AI rewrite is not running

Check whether Privacy Mode is on. Privacy Mode deliberately bypasses rewrite and inserts the transcript after transcription and optional translation.

Also confirm a rewrite model is selected in Privacy & Settings and that the app can reach the network.

Activation fails or the purchase email never arrives

For activation, paste the full key including dashes and use the checkout email. If you saved a .lic file, import it instead of retyping the key.

For a missing email, check spam and promotions, then contact help@wasprflow.xyz with the email address used at purchase. Do not send your full licence key in a support email.

An update fails or the app will not restart

Quit WASPrFlow from the tray, then run the latest installer manually from the download section. Your settings and licence remain in your app data folder.

If the updater panel shows an error, copy it from About → Logs before retrying.

Uninstall or start clean

Remove the app

  1. Quit WASPrFlow from the bar or the tray menu.
  2. Open Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
  3. Find WASPrFlow, open its menu, and choose Uninstall.

For an MSI deployment, use Programs and Features or your management tool instead.

Remove leftover data

Uninstalling removes the app but leaves your local data so a reinstall keeps your settings. To start completely clean, delete this folder after uninstalling:

%APPDATA%\com.waspflow.app

It contains config.json, license.lic, history.txt, activity_logs.txt, and your saved keys. Back up license.lic first if you plan to reuse the licence.
